One of the first breweries to open on Western Australia’s wild coastline, the Colonial Brewing Co tapped its first keg in 2004. It was the first step in an incredible journey, and guided by some of Australia’s most talented and passionate brewers, we opened our first East Coast brewery in Port Melbourne in 2015.
But even as we grow, we still do things the exact same way we do them in the Margaret River. We do them uncomplicated. That’s why our hand-crafted beer actually tastes like beer should. It’s why our ciders use only cold-pressed Australian apples. It’s why we created a range of crafted cans that could go where you go and do what you do, from the bar to a barbie, a festival to the footy.

Artfully brewed to sit between traditional American and Australian pale ales, our master brewers searched the world for the perfect combination of hops, blending USA favourites with Australia’s hop heroes to create the perfect pale. The result is a tropical-tinged treat that’s a glowing golden in colour, with subtle hints of passionfruit, pine and spicy botanicals. Smooth and approachable but packed with aromatic hops, Colonial Pale Ale is brewed to linger on the palate, not overpower it.
What does it taste like?
Bright gold in colour, and with a light yeast haze, the Pale Ale oozes hops from the moment it escapes the tap. The tropical aroma from select new world hops is the first to hit your nose. A sip brings a refreshing and clean hop flavour of passionfruit, tropical cordial and pine. The malt flavour and bitterness are just enough to linger without stopping you from wanting that next sip. This beer showcases what we think Pale Ales should be, a harmonious exhibition of fresh hops, balancing malt and lingering refined bitterness that makes this beer one for everyone
