Silkwood is a winery out of Pemberton in our Southern Forest region. This region in the south west is renowned for its exceptional rich gravelly loam soils overlaying a clay base which create outstanding conditions for Silkwood’s grapes as they’re nestled amongst magnificent forest of Karri and Jarrah.
Silkwood’s flagship varietals from this region are Sauvignon blanc, Riesling and Pinot noir. The winery believes the best wines can only come from the healthiest vines grown on good soil in the right climate. This ethos drives the bulk of the vineyard’s practices with a strong level of individual attention and focus placed on cultivating the distinct characteristics that the Pemberton region is renowned for.
The remote south-western Pemberton region may be young, but it’s already producing an exciting array of quality wines like this elegant Pinot noir and Chardonnay, two premium wines in Silkwood’s The Bowers arsenal, using carefully hand-selected parcels of fruit from their own vineyards.
Pinot noir 2017
Silkwood’s Pinot vines were planted back in 2000 and are now delivering its bounty in full effect. This wine has a lovely ruby-red, garnet hue in the glass. On the nose, this Pinot carries a well balanced mix of strawberries, cherries and other red fruits which are lifted and drizzled over a faint aroma of French oak and dark chocolate. These scents complexify as they become flavours on the palate with the dark fruity notes harmonising well with oak-driven spices and velvety tannins. Silkwood's Pinot recently won Gold at the 2017 Tall Timbers Wine Show.
The 2017 Silkwood Chardy is a masterpiece of nectarine, nougat and vanilla on the nose with a generous helping of stone fruit, melon richness and forward citrus drive. You’ll detect subtle layers of creamy complexity before finding a long, spicy and acidic finish. This wine has a lovely mouth-feel with loads of white peach and nectarine leads.
