“Willow Bridge Estate has been quickly recognised as one of the bright lights on the WA wine scene since being set up in 1996 on a spectacular hillside site in the Ferguson Valley, less than 2 hours from Perth. Its wines are consistent and top class, and during the past couple of years have moved up a gear in consistency and quality. One of the best.” - Ray Jordan, The West Australian Wine Guide 2018
We’ve been long-time fans of Willow Bridge Estate wines, and are of the opinion that they are the leading light in the Geographe wine region, known to excel in alternate varietals. The winery produces outstanding wines that represent exceptional value for money. The Willow Bridge Estate wines of excel in the points stakes, and regularly receive medals at wine shows.
The Dragonfly Range extends into the Estate range – named after the parts of the estate from which the wine originates - the Gravel Pit shiraz belongs here. The top of the triangle is reserved for the Black Dog shiraz – a collectors wine, retailing at the extraordinarily reasonable pricepoint of $60 – some may say it is too cheap.
At an elevation of 230-280m above sea level, the 60ha of Willow Bridge vineyards sit high on two hillsides, on the western side of the Darling Range. The aspect enjoys sweeping views across the coastal plain, Geographe Bay and all the way down to Cape Naturaliste. Its position, 25ks from the coast, benefits from the moderating ocean breezes, which keeps the vineyard 2-3 degrees cooler than surrounding vineyards, and plays an important role in a longer ripening window for grapes – not dissimilar to the timings of the southern Margaret River region.
DID you know?
The rainfall in the Geographe region is high – 914mm annually - 80% of this falls in just four months over winter!
