“So… my great-grandfather Alex Cooper was the licensee at the Albion Hotel Cottesloe from 1924 until 1941, and had been involved in the hotel trade around Freo prior to that. His son did not carry on in the pub game, however my mother’s father purchased a liquor store in Rivervale in the 1970’s, which my mother and father in turn bought in 1979 and owned for the next 30 years. This is where I had my upbringing in the WA liquor trade.
2014 was a big year for me: I was nominated for a Liquor Store Association WA Wine Rep of the Year Award; won State (followed by National) Sales Performer of the Year for Treasury Wine Estates and completed the Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) Level 3 Award. I had the pleasure of working with some great Australian wine brands, their makers and growers, such as Penfolds, Saltrams, Seppelts, Coldstream Hills, Devil’s Lair, Wolf Blass, Leo Buring and in particular Wynns Coonawarra Estate where I completed a vintage later in the year.
As the opportunity to purchase a store of my own began to evolve, I left TWE to work for a wine importer & spend Thursday evenings working for fine wine store La Vigna, to make sure I was ready to make a retail liquor comeback.
The license transfer for Mosman Park Fine & Spirits was granted in late 2015 and I have flown the flag for Liquor Baron’s ever since. I love the liquor trade & the enjoyment my customers get tasting & sharing our beverages with the world.”
