Meet the Barons

About Brenton

When did you join Liquor Barons?

The old man and his brother had the shop so when I came back to town (I was a carpenter) I was just helping them out doing some nights and Saturdays for some extra cash. My uncle ended up getting crook and so they asked me if I could help out for a few months ‘til he got better… That was 25 years ago. He got better but he never came back here. I bought in about 7 or 8 years later.

Do you support any local clubs/community groups?

How many can I list? We support 38 different clubs, 31 of those are truly local. Surrounding towns etc, we support those who support us. We all help each other. I don’t play any sport now, but used to play hockey, golf squash, bit of tennis and some others…

What does your local community mean to you?

Oh… I suppose it means everything. Without the community you don’t have a town. Town is my home.

Who is your favourite local customer & why?

[Chuckles] Everyone’s our favourite customer. There’s too many. Oldies, youngies, your mates, those that love a yack, trying to drag gossip in here or find gossip to take home… I dunno, we love ‘em all.

What does a good Father’s Day look like to you?

It’s a lazy day at home with the family. Brunch, lunch and afternoon drinks.

What do you hope for your children?

I’ve got three kids. I hope they achieve whatever they want to achieve, and that they’re happy in life. I hope they’re able to do what they want to do.

Who is the most famous person who has visited your store?

The most famous… Brad Hogg’s been through (cricketer), we’re in the country here. A guy from 60 Minutes back in the day… oh god what was his name… ah well.

What’s your favourite part of the job?

The people. Everyone is happy when they get here because this is the part of day that they’re in here for themselves. They’re excited about what they’re choosing, and they’re going home to drink it.

What is the weirdest thing that has happened to you while working?

Dunno… hmmm. [Sips his tea]. Narrogin is pretty well behaved… generally.
