Bundaberg

Bundaberg Subheading

An Aussie Icon

There is nothing more iconic than going to your local pub or to a mate’s BBQ and asking for a bundy. Bundaberg are not only known for their epic Rum, but also their premix drinks like Bundaberg Ginger Beer, and Lemon Lime Bitters to name a few, which just about everyone grew up drinking.

Named after the town in North Queensland, the Bundaberg distillery was born in 1888 by 7 Bundaberg locals who decided to take the by-product from the sugar cane industry and open up a rum distillery. To this day, the team continue to make their famous Bundaberg Rum the same way they did in 1888.

Quick Facts

  • In 1961, the company introduced the polar bear as its unusual choice of mascot, to imply that the rum could ward off the coldest chill.
  • Production ceased from 1907 to 1914 and from 1936 to 1939 after fires, the second of which caused rum from the factory to spill into the nearby Burnett River.
  • The shape of the current “Bundy Bottle” originated from bottles of Bushells Coffee and Chicory Essence. Bundaberg residents would sell them for one penny a bottle, after which they were washed and filled with the spirit.
