Louisa ‘LuLu’ Hawton is a three-time World Boxing champion, pro skater, mental health advocate and mother of two. She’s also a passionate inspirational speaker, sharing her own struggles with mental health and using her success to empower youth to find their passion. She’s competed in major world cups and travelled the world skating with the greats, such as Tony Hawk and Ryan Sheckler. Now, she wants to encourage others to live life to their full potential.

Q & A with LuLu

What makes you an Independent Spirit? 

I’m ferocious, entertaining, exciting, full of energy and little but large. I love the adrenaline of my sport and I’m always pushing the boundaries. It takes me down the road less travelled and I love skipping to the beat of my own drum. I’m also hard to read which I love.

What do you love to do?

I got the nickname Bang Bang LuLu because every time you land a trick in skateboarding, it’s called ‘bangers’ and I have landed many tricks! I do lots of training in my down time which helps me clear my head. I love living on the coast because everyone is really chilled out and I love Freo for the quirky vibe. I sometimes hit the drums too.

What does the future hold for you?

It takes a lot of passion to do what I’ve done, and without the passion and vision you’ll have nothing to drive you. I hope to one day run a great company that supports other upcoming female athletes and teaches them to find their passion, drive their passion and live their life as a happy spirit.

Everyone needs to remember to stop and have fun, be grateful for life and enjoy life. From there, you can succeed at anything.
