Dadbury Subheading
Dadbury was formed by some of three Independent Spirits, Mike, Sam and Barry and is a group of Dad’s from Padbury who spend their weekends giving back to their local community. From hitting the tools to weeding, mowing, edging, hedging and even fixing reticulation for people within the 6025 region, their common goal is to show their kids that good deeds go hand in hand with being good Dads.
“We wanted to create something that was community-based, that allowed the blokes to get together like the Mum’s with their mothers’ groups. We’re about stepping out of the norm, involving our kids and the local community, and banding together to help people out. We’re breaking the stigma of Mum’s staying at home while the men go to work!”
– Mike Maxted, Co-Founder.
Dadbury’s good deeds and ability to pay it forward to their community is aspirational and just like these legends, we’re big on teamwork and pitching in where we can here at Liquor Barons.
Q & A with Dadbury
How was Dadbury first formed?
Dadbury formed from a group of Dads, that all had kids in the same year at primary school. Sam and I went to a P&C meeting and we were the only blokes there, so we thought the Dads should help out too and not just leave it to the Mums. We realised we could make something of this collective that was community-based, and that allowed the blokes to get together like the mums with their Mothers’ groups.
What do you hope to get out of it?
We just want our kids to see that you need to go out and make an effort in the community and it’s snowballed into something that’s greater than what we expected, but we hope to inspire other Dads in other communities to do the same thing.
We rely on the local community to come to us and give us stories about how we can help people, no matter what the job is.
What makes Dadbury an Independent Spirit?
We love stepping out of the norm, involving our kids and the local community, and banding together to help people out. We’re here to step up and break the stigma of Mums staying at home, while the men go to work. Dad’s can make cupcakes too! From people doing it tough to people who just need mental support, we love to help out the local community while showing our kids that dads can be involved too.
What do you love about WA?
We love Kalbarri, particularly the cliffs of Kalbarri, and the bright, random colours. We also love the deep South, anything Albany and South West coastal, as well as Pemberton and Manjimup. But let’s not forget that we love the immediate coast of WA, and think that WA is the greatest parcel of land in the world. We’re spoilt over here!
