In years long-passed, distillery workers would help themselves to a dram using a ‘copper dog’; a small welded copper pipe hidden inside the leg of their trousers.
These Speyside rascals and characters are the inspiration for this unique blend of no fewer than eight single malt Speyside whiskies, slowly married together in old oak casks. An easy-drinking scotch that mixes with everything.
Speyside is one of the most remote areas of the Scottish Highlands and centres around the River Spey. Speyside is the largest whisky region in the world and home to 70% of all Scotch whisky production. At its heart is the iconic Craigellachie Hotel, since 1893 the favoured pub of Speyside’s local distillery workers. Purchased in 2014 by Piers Adam, founder of some of the world’s most influential bars and clubs, the Hotel’s pub is renamed the Copper Dog in honour of these distillery workers and a project is instigated to create a whisky of the same name…vibrant, approachable and mixable whilst remaining an authentic representation of Speyside.
No fewer than eight single malt whiskies are blended together including Roseisle, Inchgower & Knockando. The blend is finally married in Speyside for a further 3 months in re-fill casks with resulting notes of toffee apple, zesty citrus, crisp apple and pears, berries and warming spice. The diversity of flavours created in Speyside is evident throughout. Best enjoyed however you like it, but try it mixed with Dry Ginger, Fresh Orange Juice, Soda Water or in our signature Apple Dog serve below.
